Drink-driving has not been reduced by the popularity of Uber taxis, new research has found.
The theory that drunks opt to use their smartphones to arrange a safe route home instead of getting behind the wheel themselves is untrue.
Researchers analysed road death rates before and after the rise of Uber in America.
This calls into doubt earlier contrary claims made by the company last year.
