WV:  New DUI Simulator to be Unveiled

News Release

WV ABCA

June 7, 2019

Charleston, W.Va. – The West Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Administration (WVABCA) will hold a press conference on Monday, June 10 at 1:30 p.m. to present the citizens of West Virginia with a brand-new DUI Simulator.

WVABCA Commissioner Fred Wooton said, “The DUI Simulator is in great demand and since 2010, the WVABCA has attended 604 events and 54,127 people, mostly students, have experienced this life saving program.” Wooton further stated, “Thanks to grant funding from State Farm ®, National Alcohol Beverage Control Association and the Governor’s Highway Safety Program, the WVABCA was able to replace the Simulator with a technologically advanced and larger model.”

The program provides youth with the opportunity to experience various driving conditions, hazards and scenarios while safely using a simulation system. The program mimics the difficulties drivers will encounter at various blood alcohol content (BAC) levels. The program also includes a classroom lecture and collects relevant statistical information to aid in prevention programming.

The DUI Simulator Program places an emphasis on encouraging youth to make good decisions while behind the wheel and throughout life.

This event will take place on the grounds of the West Virginia State Capital, just outside the west wing entrance of the Governor’s Office. In the event of rain, the DUI Simulator will still be on display, but the press conference will be held in the main reception room of the Governor’s Office.
