LANSING, Mich. (AP) – Passengers will be allowed to drink alcohol on pedal-powered vehicles under a Michigan law signed by Gov. Rick Snyder.

The measure enacted Wednesday gives local governments the discretion to still prohibit drinking onboard “pedal pubs.”

Snyder says the law sponsored by northern Michigan Sens. Wayne Schmidt and Tom Casperson requires pedal pub operators to not be under the influence of alcohol and to have proof of liability insurance.

Snyder on Wednesday also signed a law tripling the number of allowable “satellite” technology parks in Michigan. Certain cities will be able to partner with other communities to capture property taxes in designated areas for high-technology projects.

Snyder and Rep. Daniela Garcia, the bill sponsor, say the law will help expand a Grand Rapids “SmartZone” into Holland.
