New Zealand: Booze-free bar to hit Auckland
July 2, 2015
In a country that likes its booze, an alcohol-free bar may break new ground.
The backers of Auckland’s The Tap Bar, which stands for The After Party, admit what may be the country’s first dry bar is a risk.
Its first night on Karangahape Rd will see it open from midnight Friday until 8am, later than licenced bars and will offer an option for people looking for somewhere to go at 4am.
“We’ll give it a crack. If it’s going to work anywhere it’s in this city,” Grady Elliott, who also runs the nearby Family Bar, told Fairfax Media.
Despite not offering any intoxicating beverages, The Tap Bar will still charge a door fee.
