United Kingdom: Ban for drinks-industry alcohol campaigns

Dublin city council has banned drinks industry-funded alchohol-awareness campaigns from using its properties.

 

One such event was held in March last year when Fergus Finlay, chairman of the Stop Out-of-Control Drinking campaign, talked about how cultural perceptions influenced Irish drinking habits. The event was funded by the drinks giant Diageo.

 

The charity Drinkaware is also funded by the alcohol industry.

 

Gary Gannon, the Social Democrats councillor who proposed the ban, said that he was delighted with the result and called on other councils to follow suit.
