A Staten Island man was charged with illegally transporting and smuggling alcohol from Delaware to New York in a tractor trailer Thursday, according to the state Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement.

A seven-month investigation led police from multiple agencies to arrest 58-year-old Alphonse Iannacone Thursday when they seized a 2005 Freightliner tractor trailer, 1,400 assorted cases of beer and $99,435 in cash from Tri-State Liquors, located at 333 Naamans Road in Claymont, said John Yeomans, director of the division.

Iannacone was charged with one count of criminal solicitation, one count of transportation of spirits, wines or beer prohibited, one count of unlawful to transport alcohol in the state of Delaware except where it is permitted by the Commissioner, and one count of shipping and transporting of alcoholic liquor by other than the manufacturer or importer, all of which are misdemeanor charges.

He was released on $2,000 unsecured bail.
