WA: Tribes open comment period on amendment related to sale of liquor

NESPELEM – The Colville Confederated Tribes have opened for public comment a proposed amendment to the Colville Tribal Code that would “provide for the introduction, sale, distribution and possession of packaged spirits” on properties owned by the Colville Tribes, according to a proposed code amendment cover letter released by ORA, June 21.
If passed, the change would also provide for a Colville Tribal Liquor Administrator to regulate the sale of liquor.
The cover letter further notes, “The current Chapter 6-2 ‘Liquor Control’ was adopted to create a Liquor Control Board to license, enforce3 and tax liquor sales. The Tribes now is entering into an MOA with the Washington State Liquor Cannabis Board for the sale of packaged spirits. This MOA renders an internal Liquor Control Board unnecessary, instead of providing for a Liquor Administrator.”
The Colville Business Council opened the public comment period for 60 days, June 19. The comment period will close August 20, and a second meeting will go infront of CBC Sept. 4.
